You're absolutely right that the presidency is on-the-job training. What many people failed to recognize when it came to George W. Bush was that he had a leg up on most of the folks who had the job. After all, he already knew where everything was! He also knew the entire staff by their first and last names. He could recall incidents in each of their lives and chit-chat with them about new borns, sick mothers, the kids' school activities and so forth. He was no stranger around the White House having had a father as president. Not only that, but a father who once headed up the CIA.
As for Barack Obama, it has to be quite a shift for him. New house, new job, tremendous responsibility, watchdogs on every corner.
Personally, I can not understand why anyone would want the job!
The best rewards of the presidency comes AFTER you've retired from it! There's more money, more freedom and you're allowed to have a blackberry.

I'm surprised that Hillary Clinton took the job of Sec. of State. But I understand she is said to be an excellent choice. I'm surprised because many people in the know says she could be another Ted Kennedy in the Senate (assuming that is a good thing). So she is giving up a potential legacy to work with Obama. But that's historic in its own sense.
The problem for Hillary, and a major hurdle, is having Joe Biden looking over her shoulders trying to call the shots. I'm not impressed with Biden. He's too small-minded for my likes. I think as Sec. of State, Ms Clinton will really have to be on her guard.
As for Bob Gates.. total surprise, but probably another smart move on Obama's part. He's smart enough to know he needs experienced people in these posts and that he can not afford beginners.
Campaign talk is one thing, then there's that little thing called, 'reality'. Barack Obama has a big job ahead and he's looking reality squarely in the face now. He will continue to move more to the center. I think the job demands it.
Personally, I wish him all the best... our country needs everyone's best more then ever.
That's my two cents. Thanks for asking!

Hi Dan!
Just curious - what do you think of Obama's choices of cabinet - are they better or worse than you expected. Do you think Obama is going to be ultra liberal, or more moderate than you expected?
Thanks! :-)

I loved hearing about you cats. I see you love them very much, and I am so happy about that. I am an animal lover to a fault. Cats are very special though. I had a Lilac Siamese for 17 and 1/2 years. When he went over to the other side, I thought I would die. We were so bonded. It has been 16 years then, and I still miss him, and cry. I still hang up his sock at Christmas and his ornaments. It took me 5 years after he left, to adopt another cat. I wasn't ready, but my husband wanted one. He is 11 now. A big cat, not fat. Only 13 pounds, but huge. On his hind legs, he can reach up past my waste line with his front paws, and I'm 5 1/4" He sleeps and is extremely shy to everyone. Not very affectionate either. 3 years ago we adopted a tortie girl. Hit the jackpot with her. She is the most loving sweetie. And she always knows when I hurt, and she will lay across me and purr. She is very sensitive, but into everything. She has the perfect name, Sweetie Pie Trouble. :) Hope I didn't bore you with my cat talking. They are my furry babies, and spoiled rotten. What did you vet say to do about controlling your cats weight? Our old one who is inactive is perfect as far as weight. But the little 3 year old girl, is heavy, and she is very hyper and very active. Cannot figure out why she is heavy. 12 pounds, but she is tiny.
Our country is really in a very bad way. We are suffering a lot. Are you? I am thankful that we belong to a loving church that has helped us out. My husbands hours have been cut down. The food banks are almost out of food, so you can see how bad this economy is effecting so many people. We are borderline depression already. So sad. But, God is in control. We need to pray for our country, pray for Obama, as he has a big mess, and pray for all the Americans going through such a hard time. Prayer is powerful, and so we need to pray about everything and then hope and just trust.
God bless you dear. Thank you for your friendship. M&M

I love Obama too. America needed him a long time ago. He really seems to care, and he is so bright and of strong character. We just have to pray for him daily, and his family. I love cats too. I only have 2. They are indoor ones, enough for me though. Are your 5 indoor or outdoor cats?
Hope you are having a great weekend. Thanks for the ping sweetie.

Hey, Jerry, thanks for the vote of confidence and comment. Don't get the cart before the horse, though. McCain has been down before. Sadly, he didn't stay there.
